The University at Global Academic Standards… Yeditepe University was founded in 1996 by the Istanbul Education and Culture Foundation (ISTEK), under Law No. 4142. It is a foundation university framed by the Higher Education Law and has legal entity, and financial and administrative freedom. Its founder is Bedrettin Dalan.
In line with Atatürk's principles and with the contribution of a progressive and select academic and administrative staff, Yeditepe University aims to educate students who are inquisitive, innovative, well-equipped with technological skills, well-acquainted with world culture, have a solid identity, and are equippedwith all the qualifications required by the business world. With its up-to-date academic programs and training, Yeditepe University offers an education in line with the expectations of the information age.
Yeditepe University carries out its academic mission through 12 faculties entailing 60 programs: the Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Health Science, Law, Engineering and Architecture, Education, Arts and Sciences, Economics and Administrative Sciences, Commerce, Communication, and Fine Arts. Except for the Faculty of Dentistry, all undergraduate and graduate programs are located on the 26 August Campus. The Faculty of Dentistry and its Hospital are in their own building on Ba_dat Caddesi in Erenköy. The University Hospital is in Bostancı, on the throughway E-5; the Center for Applied Research in Eye Diseases is in Balmumcu.
The language of instruction at Yeditepe University is English. Some programs are taught in German, Italian, and French. The students are offered a wide spectrum of foreign languages, among them German, Italian, Spanish, Latin, Ancient Greek, Hebrew, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Flemish, Polish, Arabic, Swedish.
The most important feature that distinguishes Yeditepe University from other universities and helps to attract a large number of students is that it provides academic quality and campus facilities at world standards.
Yeditepe University is the first foundation university in Turkey which has been accredited by the Institutional Accreditation Program of the Association of European Universities (EUA).
Yeditepe University offers its students the opportunity to obtain double degrees and double majors at world-renowned universities such as Texas Tech, Rochester Institute of Technology, the University of Illinois, Loyola, among others. Presently Yeditepe University has 318 students doing a double major and 219 students doing a minor. In addition, Yeditepe University has over 300 foreign students and an equal number of students studying in the USA, Canada, Europe (Erasmus), Russia and the Far East.
The instruction in the Faculties of Law, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Health Sciences is carried out by the most distinguished academics in Turkey. These faculties are in the first ranks of the Turkish educational system, due also to the high quality of the Yeditepe students.
The Faculty of Dentistry has been ranked as one of the best dentistry faculties in Europe by the European Dentistry Association (ADEE). At its very first inspection, Yeditepe University Hospital was accredited by JCI, which is the most important arbiter of health standards.
The Faculty of Law ranks as number one in the student exchange with the USA and Europe. Its graduates have built very successful careers with the help of the graduate degrees they have received abroad.
The Faculties of Economics and Administrative Sciences and Commerce whose teaching staff arecomprised of leading academics of Turkey, are enormously popular with students because of student satisfaction and the job opportunities which they offer after graduation.
The Tourism and Hotel Management Department of the Faculty of Commerce has received the Tourism Oscar in the category “Tourism Education” awarded by Skal International (the Association of Tourism Professionals).
The Faculty of Engineering and Architecture is one of the most popular faculties of the University. The Department of Genetics and Bioengineering is one of the best- equipped of its kind in Europe, especially with its stem cell research and lab infrastructure. It has been accredited by MÜDEK (the Association of Engineering Evaluation and Accreditation) in the areas of Computer, Electric and Electronics, Genetic and Bioengineering, Chemistry, Mechanical, Industrial and Systems Engineering.
The Faculties of Commerce, Fine Arts, Arts and Sciences, and Education are pursuing their academic endeavors with great success.
The Faculty of Arts and Sciences has guaranteed its academic excellence through the prestigious FEDEK Accreditation Scheme. The Departments of Philosophy and Physics are the first departments in Turkey to receive this accreditation which is very important in the higher education system. The Metrology (Calibration) Lab has been accredited by TURKAK, a requirement of TS EN ISO/IEC 17025 standards. This lab not only enables students to get good practice while learning, but also serves Turkish industry on the measurement of heat and dimensions.
Campus facilities is an undeniably important aspect of a university education at world standards. Yeditepe University is located on the 26 August Campus, specially built to meet all the needs of its students, from culture to sports. This campus is located on the Asian side of Istanbul, at the foot of Kayıﬂda€ı, having an area of 125.000 square meters, with 223.000 square meters of covered area. Inspired by Selchuk architecture, the Campus comprises educational and social facilities which are surrounded by two student hotels with a capacity of 4.400 students. The entrances to the buildings are through grand portals, some of which have a height of 22 meters. With their well-lit courtyards, these are modern structures with the typical features of Selchuk architecture. The façades are covered with natural stones brought from Anatolia.
