About Akdeniz University
Akdeniz University was founded in 1982, and included higher education institutions in Antalya, Burdur and Isparta, The units outside Antalya were transferred to Süleyman Demirel University in 1992, and the Burdur Faculty of Veterinary Science went to Mehmet Akif Ersoy University in 2006.
Akdeniz University is a member of the EUA, (the European Universities Association) and the IAU, (the International Association of Universities) and regards internationalization as being of the greatest importance. The university has signed 325 agreements within the framework of the Erasmus+ Programme and 60 agreements with in 23 different countries under the terms of the Mevlana Exchange Programme.
In addition to comprehensive collaboration within Europe, Akdeniz University has also signed 50 scientific and cultural bilateral collaboration agreements with respected universities in every part of the world.
Akdeniz University provides a high standard of education for 60,626 students in 20 faculties, 7 graduate schools, 3 schools, 1 conservatory and 11 vocational schools.
Akdeniz University provides an education designed to develop individuals who can apply all the information needed to undertake major tasks on an international scale. All academic activity takes place in classrooms and lecture halls with all the facilities demanded by modern educational standards, and in research and application laboratories which provide all the equipment required to take advantage of the latest state-of-the-art technology.
The social facilities provided for the students in Akdeniz University include health, cultural and social services, psychological consultancy and guidance, a support unit for handicapped students, as well as accommodation and sports facilities.
Canteens and cafeterias are provided in the faculties and schools where students can enjoy a meal or snack, relax and socialise between lectures. In addition the Olbia Cultural Centre and Yakut Living Space were established to take care of the social-cultural needs of the students, and contain a supermarket, restaurants, cafeterias and fast food outlets where all kinds of food and refreshments can be found.
The Students’ Representative Council was created to protect the rights of the students of Akdeniz University, and to address their needs in the fields of education, health, sports and culture. The International Students’ Representative Council was created within the Student Council specifically to provide consultancy services and guidance for our international students.
There are 94 student clubs in which students can gain experience of working together as a group, and where they can meet and communicate, share their ideas, carry out research and work cooperatively.
