Associate / Undergraduate Degree Programs
The registrations of the candidates who succeed to apply for Istanbul University Faculties and Schools within the results of Student Selection and Placement Examination (ÖSYS), Vertical Pass Examination (DGS), Istanbul University Foreign and Overseas Students Exam (İÜYÖS), Turkish Scholarships and other scholarships for the first time, are made in accordance with the principles and procedures of the New Registrations Manual prepared and published each year before precise registration dates.
The planning and coordination of applications and registrations for our university’s diploma programs are executed by the Department of Student Affairs.
The selection and placement of students for the undergraduate and associate degree programs in Turkey are administered by Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). The examination held by ÖSYM is through two stages; Higher Education Examination (YGS) and Undergraduate Placement Examination (LYS). Students who score less than the minimum of 140 points, cannot enter the second examination (Except for the students who hold the right to enter without an exam). Students who score between 140.000 and 179.999 in YGS can only apply for the universities’ associate degree and open & remote education programs. Students who score 180 or more in LYS can apply to the undergraduate programs of universities according to their type of scores. Detailed information on these examinations can be found in http://www.osym.gov.tr. Students are to be registered to our university through the dates announced by ÖSYM.
All the departments of İÜ State Conservatory and Faculty of Sport Sciences and Faculty of Letters/Department of Theatre Criticism and Dramaturgy accepts undergraduate students with special talent examination. Students should provide the minimum 140.000 YGS score in order to apply. The score might be increased by the departments.
Candidates approved to apply for the programs with English as the language of instruction should present their English proficiency certificates (TOEFL, IELTS, YDS) or should enter the Foreign Languages Department-English Proficiency/Prep Class Exemption Exam.
Students insufficient in the exemption exam or without a proficiency certificate should take the preparation class at the Foreign Languages Department.
Foreign and Overseas Students
The İÜYÖS (Istanbul University Foreign and Overseas Students Exam) is held every year for the foreign students and students from overseas to enter the undergraduate or associate degree programs. Except for the Turkey Scholarships Status students, all the foreign students have to take the İÜYÖS exam to be accepted for diploma programs.
Foreign students and students from overseas who succeed to enter a program in Turkish, should get a Turkish proficiency certificate from the language center or take the İÜ Foreign Languages Department Turkish Test and get a minimum of C1/C2 level. Students lower than C1/C2 levels have to take Turkish language classes at İÜ Foreign Languages Department before starting their academic programs.
Candidates approved to apply for the programs with English as the language of instruction should present their English proficiency certificates (TOEFL, IELTS,YDS) or should enter the Foreign Languages Department-English Proficiency/Prep Class Exemption Exam. Graduate Programs-Entrance/Acceptance Requirements
Acceptance of students for our university’s graduate programs is executed through the İÜ Graduate Education and Regulations as general quota and overseas quota.
Graduate programs candidates apply and register in accordance with the Graduate Programs Application Manual published on the website of Department of Student Affairs, prepared by the affiliated institutions for the related academic term.
Student acceptance for the Graduate Programs from the quotas/with thesis:
Candidates should hold at least an undergraduate degree. Students applying to programs except arts departments should have a score not less than 60 in ALES (Selection Exam for Academic Personnel and Graduate Studies by ÖSYM) or an equivalent exam or a score determined by the senate, art department’s candidates should have an artistic proficiency score of their field not less than 60 or the score determined by the senate. They should also have a score of 50 from YDS (Yabancı Dil Bilgisi Seviye Tespit Sınavı/Foreign Language Placement Test by ÖSYM) or equivalent foreign language test.
Student Acceptance for the Graduate Programs from the general quotas/without thesis:
Candidates should hold at least an undergraduate degree. In case of demand, they should have a score of 55 from ALES (Selection Exam for Academic Personnel and Graduate Studies by ÖSYM) or an equivalent test or a score determined by the İÜ senate.
Student Acceptance for Ph.D. Programs from general quotas:
Candidates should have a degree from an undergraduate program, graduate program with thesis or a joint undergraduate and graduate degree. Excluding the prep classes, at least 5 years (10 semesters) of continuous undergraduate education of dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine and at least 6 years (12 semesters) continuous education of medical faculty graduates and graduates of faculty of pharmacy of 4 years (8 semesters) and graduates of faculty of sciences specialized in a laboratory field in accordance with the principles and procedures determined by the ministry of Health can apply for a Ph.D. program without a graduate degree. Candidates applying for Ph.D. after an undergraduate program should have a graduation average of 3.00/4.00 or an equivalent grade.
Candidates should have at least a score of 65 from ALES (Selection Exam for Academic Personnel and Graduate Studies by ÖSYM) or an equivalent test and undergraduate program graduates a score of 80 or a score determined by the senate.
Basic Medical Sciences Ph.D. candidates, graduated from medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine and pharmacy, and graduates of faculty of sciences specialized in a laboratory field in accordance with the principles and procedures determined by the Ministry of Health, and graduates of 4-year education of pharmacy should have a score of 65 or a score determined by the İÜ Senate. Candidates holding a degree in Medicine could apply with a score of 55 from the examination for specialty in medicine (basic medical sciences score).
Candidates should also have a score of 50 from YDS (Yabancı Dil Bilgisi Seviye Tespit Sınavı/Foreign Language Placement Test by ÖSYM) or equivalent foreign language test.

Undergraduate and Graduate Programs Entrance and Acceptance Conditions for Exchange Students:
The application and registration procedures for Erasmus and Mevlana exchange students are executed in accordance with the mutual memorandum of understanding and regarding principles and procedures by the Erasmus and Mevlana Offices.
The national exchange program Farabi is executed by the Farabi Office.
