The foundation of Erzincan University is laid upon Erzincan Vocational School and Erzincan School of Education ( former Institute of Education ) which were first constituted in 1976, depending on the Ministry of Education, and then joined Atatürk University. On 11.07.1992, the School of Education was converted into the Faculty of Education, and continued undergraduate level education on primary school teaching, depending upon Atatürk University Rectorate. The Faculty of Law was founded in 1987. The faculty started education in 1991. In 1994, the education started again in Erzincan Faculty of Education. The Faculty of Arts and Sciences was founded on 27.06.1987. The faculty started education in the academic year 2004-2005. Between 1991-2004, Erzincan Erzincan Vocational School of Theology and Vocational High Schools in Refahiye, Tercan and Kelkit districts were opened under Atatürk University. In Kemaliye district of Erzincan, Kemaliye Hacı Ali Akın Vocational School of Higher Education was opened on 5.06.1996 under Fırat University and continued its education activities until 2006 under the same university. School of Health was established in 1996. The school started education in the academic year 1999-2000.
